Luster

Luster is one of the musical projects of c. reider.

Luster has had multiple personality disorder since its inception, not settling on any one style throughout its discography. The rather tortured explanation for this has been that Luster is "more accessible" than the experimental works of c. reider, but this excuse is misleading, as none of Luster's recordings have been "pop" material.

The first cassette release "not named" was something of an underground cult 'hit', garnering much praise (and derision,) based on its spare, bleak, dark song-works and industrial scrape-scapes. It was the first musical recording project for the nascent Vuzh Music, and was released in 1991. Recorded and engineered by Erinn Thorp.

The second cassette release was "ne quid nimis (a diary of tentative ambient drafts)" which was a subdued exploration of the quieter realms of experimental 4-track recordings. It was released on AudioFile Tapes in 1996. It is scheduled to be re-released on this site sometime in 2008.

The final Luster release is "abandon", ultimately a hodgepodge of collaborations and recordings that weren't suited to other projects, it's contrarily one of the strongest things ever released on Vuzh Music. Released in 1998, and remastered for CDr release in 2002.

It is quite probable that there will be no more releases using the name Luster.
