Drone Forest | Amy's Arms | 2007 | vuzh022 | 30 min. 12" vinyl LP, ltd. ed. of 219 |
![]() |
This is our first -- hopefully of many -- vinyl record releases. "Amy's Arms / metacollage" is a strange sound journey by the venerable quietnoise collective Drone Forest, four individuals who trade sound sources over the internet and use them to create music which shares the same aesthetic, but rarely the same process. Since its inception in 2003, Drone Forest has released over twenty hours of experimental ambientnoise, and uploaded it to share with the world for free on its website, droneforest.com. This highly special release is a limited edition of 219, and each one is individually numbered and hand-stamped with an image culled from a drawing by C. Reider. This particular Drone Forest release was assembled by C. Reider using sources from the group. Within the U.S., $11.50 + $4 post = $15.50: International, 11.50 + 11 postage = $22.50 US: |

c. reider | Aughtet | 2003 | vuzh019 | 60 min. mp3 FREE DOWNLOAD |
![]() |
c. reider's tendency to manipulate the human voice into weird patterns is explored to its fullest on this release. Voice samples from friends were rendered into rumbling guttural grunts, incoherent alien poetry, spiky shards of plosives, singing where once there was no singing, and smooth grains of foreverness. 99% of the sound sources on this recording come from someone's mouth.

Apollon | Nox | 2003 | vuzh020 | 60 min. Currently unavailable |
![]() |
"Nox" is an ever changing tapestry of dark sound vignettes, with gritty and foreboding loops of ethnic percussion and smokey ambience, recalling the works of Zoviet:France and Muslimgauze. Apollon's Martin Lee-Stephenson has been working in the experimental "genre" for many years under different pseudonyms. He has been credited in some way, either as producer and/or artist with over 100 releases to date, including collaborative work with such well-known experimental artists as Muslimgauze and Pigface."

c. reider | some things i did when i lost my mind | 2001 | vuzh018 | 60 min. CDr Currently unavailable |
![]() |
Toward the beginning of 2001, i briefly left reality.
These recordings represent what i thought sounded right while i was waiting out the bio-chemical storm.
Queasy, non-melodic drone-loops with glitching electronic buzzes, murmers and crackles at the foreground. Very zoned-out, yet difficult experimental sound works,
intersecting noise and ambient.

A full-length postal collaboration bewteen two long-time underground ambient artists. c. reider and Germany's Tarkatak mesh their ideas with a fine result. Flowing, melodic drone-ambient with subdued industrial-noise and lurking strangeness (think "Cities in Fog" by Jeff Grienke)

C. Reider | abandon | 1998 | vuzh010 | 60 min. 256k mp3 Free Download |
![]() |
An extremely eclecic collection of instrumental sound-works originally recorded to 4-track in the mid to early '90s, later resurrected, restructured, modified and altered to digital 8-track in late 1998. Kind of a "from the vault" release, this contains all the pieces that didn't make it to any "real" release, and other rare or previously unheard tracks updated and recontextualized. Considering its nature, it's actually one of the most coherent and flowing of all Vuzh Music releases. Goes from strange, electronic dance music to thick, very tense ambient / noise works, to percussive, imaginary tribal improvisation, to quaint, simple acoustic guitar pieces. Includes excellent collaborations with Eyelight, Kirchenkampf, Samarkand, and the first collaboration with caerie since the Unseelie Court.

c. reider | man-hours | 1997 | vuzh008 | 48 min. Free Download |
![]() |
A very minimal, lo-fi ambient / noise project based on the theme of work vs. play. On one side a slowly changing musical theme is smeared into obscurity until only faint strains make their way up through foggy depths, kind of like if Seefeel were playing a show on a boat, and you were listening several fathoms below, underwater. The second side stems from site recording tapes orginally recorded in a factory, then modulated into a warm industrial drone. Plenty of subtle nuances to discover hidden in these pieces. This was recorded with the intent of being played quietly, as a compliment to the space in which it is played. Very trance inducing, and fills a room quite nicely.

Deleted | Système Nerveux | 2000 | vuzh016 | 60 min. Currently unavailable |
![]() |
Quirky mid-tempo techno from the French duo also known as Klimperei. Using a weird pop sensibility akin to the Art of Noise or Yello, with some moments of Tortoise-like post jazz, and a slightly melancholy flavour. Makes me feel like sipping a cold grape soda and sitting on the porch and letting the rest of the world go to hell. As Kraftwerk once said: "Musique Non-Stop, Techno Pop !!"

c. reider | GRIME (the Secret Content of the Abandoned Roadside Tapes) |
1995 | vuzh003 | 30 min. limited edition cassette, with text. $8 US CD re-release soon. |
![]() |
The result of a laborious mail-art / sound-art project for which strands of audio tape found along roadsides all over the world were all spliced together at random to create a gritty tapestry of music / noise. Is the music the noise, or is it the other way around? Tape strands were mailed to c. reider from 89 participants from all over the world. A fascinating study of sonic decay. "A veritable symphony of subliminal bubblings."

Harlan | Collective Sounds | 1998 | VUE003 | 56 min. $7 US Currently unavailable |
![]() |
A new edit of the underground classic "Collective Sounds" by manic percussionist Harlan. Explosive with energy, the music skitters around indecisively between hip-hop, metal and improvised band jams. The pacing is Lumpy Gravy-esque, laying down a groove for a little while, only to quick-edit to something totally different, punctuated with funny voices murmuring about something or other. An unforgettable collage of groovy racket bursting with raw energy.

Tall Bald Grandfathers | Incomplete Inheritances | 1988 |
VUE001 | 45 min. CDr Currently unavailable |
![]() |
The first release in the Vuzh Underground Editions, re-releasing rare or unavailable underground classics, this is a lovingly produced re-release of the 1988 cassette classic by husband and wife team Ethan Cascio and Allison Aaron-Cascio. Their unique and difficult to describe sound incorporates jazz elements, with slinky saxophone lines and non-rock-song structures, but it's not jazz. It incorporates some early industrial elements, using synths and odd noises, but it's not industrial. Allison's storytelling and train-of-thought vocalisations add to the sound with a style somewhat similar to Hugo Largo's Mimi Goese or Yoko Ono, delivering meditative and weird ruminations on Childhood and Death, Love and Loss, Family and Self. What the Tall Bald Grandfathers are is totally unique, and here at Vuzh Music, that gets them a gold star. Almost 15 years have passed, and still no one has done anything quite like this.

Drone Forest | Wormwood |
2007 | DF23 | 50 min FREE DOWNLOAD |

The twenty-third available hour of drones from this group is a thorny, noisy, poisonous, distorted affair. Assembled by C. Reider, using sources from the group, this release harkens back to the old days of noise on tape from the cassette underground. The days when nuclear disasters could be covered up, for a few days, at least.

Mike Bowman puts the bustle in this hedgerow. One of "classic rock"'s most classic songs rendered into extremely minimal, ringing drone-age. Possibly my own personal favorite Drone Forest release. "In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees..."
